Back to School Information 2026 – 2027

September 2, 2026

 Dear Devon Gardens Families,

We hope you’ve had a wonderful summer and are looking forward to a new school year!

As we get ready for the first day of school, we have some news to share, followed by some information about the first day and week of school.

News

Mme Greenhalgh will be on leave for the next few months.  She wishes the entire school community a successful start-up and she looks forward to reconnecting with students, staff and families upon her return. Mme Hamilton is at Devon Gardens as principal until Mme Greenhalgh’s return.

Mr. Rodgers is back as vice-principal, and is looking forward to reconnecting with everyone on the first day of school – Tuesday, September 8th!

First Day of School Information

When?                 Tuesday, September 8th

What Time?         8:45 am – 12:00 pm for Grades 1 – 7

Kindergarten – Follow your group’s gradual entry schedule

Families, please arrange pick up for your child or children at noon, including letting daycare or out of school care know as well. Thank you.

Where do I go?

Returning Students from last year – Please go to your line up spot from last year. Look for the cone with your teacher’s name from last year.

New Students this year – Please meet outside the gym by the sign.

If you’re not sure where that is, start at the front door of the school and someone will show you where to go.

Kindergarten – Meet at the Playground Pals bin by the undercover area. Look for the “Kindergarten Meet Here” sign.

Confused? Look for the maps posted around the school or ask a staff member – they’ll be wearing bright vests so they will be easy to find!

What do I bring?

Grades 1 – 7:

  • Pencil case with pencil/pen and eraser
  • Pencil crayons/markers (no Sharpies)
  • Water bottle
  • Snack – Due to severe allergies, NO peanuts, tree nuts, cashews or onions. Thank you.

What NOT to bring:

  • Personal Digital Devices – including cell phones and smart watches.

Students who have a cell phone are to keep it in their backpacks/bags from 8:45 am – 3:00 pm unless they have permission from a staff member or have a documented medical condition that requires access to a cell phone as per their nursing plan.

  • All your school supplies.

Common Questions before the first day:

Where can I park?

There is very limited parking in the lower parking lot across from the school. Families are encouraged to park at Annieville Park and make the short walk to Devon Gardens.

There is no parking, drop-off or pickup from the upper staff parking lot in front of the school. The only exception is if you require an accessible parking spot and have a valid accessibility hang tag.

Where do I find school supply lists?

They are on the school website here: https://dg.deltasd.bc.ca/our-school/school-supplies/

Where can I find more information?

Please check the school website: https://dg.deltasd.bc.ca/

You’ll find the school calendar, bell times, information from the Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) and more.

What about the rest of the week?

Grade 1 – 7:

Wednesday – Friday are regular days. Snack and lunch will be needed.

Please remember we dismiss at 1:45 pm every Wednesday.

Keep all school supplies at home, except for pencil/pen, eraser, pencil case, pencil crayons, unless your teacher asks you to bring something specific.

Kindergarten: Continue to follow your gradual entry schedule.
