Dragon’s Breath Dec 3 – 7

Dear Parents and Guardians,

There is one last chance on Monday morning for you to bring in items for the ElectroRecycle challenge. Hopefully this helps get rid of some junk in your house. Remember we are competing with other schools. The school that brings in the most will win a PIZZA PARTY for the school and $1000 towards our green initiatives.

For a list of what can and can not bring, please see the link below.

Thank you to all those who took part in our Spirit Day on Friday. Thank you to Mme Erker and Mme Oliveira for organizing.

It was also great seeing so many DG families out at the Giants Game. Thank you to Mme Ko for arranging tickets to an awesome game.

As you know, teachers and classes are woking hard preparing for our Christmas Concert. We will have two shows on Tuesday Dec 18. One will be at 1pm and the other will be at 7pm. Please note that tickets for the evening concert will be limited to two tickets per family. We encourage families to consider coming to the afternoon concert since we anticipate more seats being available in the afternoon.

We are also taking donations for our Delta Assist Food Drive. Our food drive will go to Dec 19. Please also consider bringing a non-perishable food item along with you when you come to the Christmas Concert.

Our next PAC Meeting is Monday Dec 3 at 7pm, and our next popcorn day is Dec. 7. A huge thank you to the PAC for all their hard work.

Update from the DG PAC: our library mural project has started!
If you’ve been in the library lately, you’ll have noticed that it now has a really fun seating area, a fresh coat of white paint, new carpets, large bookshelves on wheels, and more.
That means we’re ready to start the next phase, which is nine murals inside the library and a huge mural on the hallway outside the library. The murals in the library will represent the ten categories of the Dewey Decimal System. The hallway mural will be an awe-inspiring Devon Gardens dragon. We can’t wait for you to see them!
Our mural artist, Dean Lauze, and his assistant have already started work in the library and will continue over the next several weeks. Check out Dean’s website for examples of the artwork he’s created in other schools and communities: https://www.lauze.com/
It will be a great learning experience for DG students to see the murals go from sketches to fully finished masterpieces and Dean has been cheerfully answering questions from curious students. Once the murals are complete we’ll have a grand reveal and also share photos in the Dragon’s Breath.
The murals, seating area, and some other work in the library have been fully funded by the DG PAC, thanks to our school fundraisers and the provincial PAC gaming grant. As always, we truly appreciate the support of DG families! If you’re interested in learning more about the PAC, fundraising, and our projects, join us at the next PAC meeting on Monday, December 3 at 7pm in the library. You’ll also get a sneak peek at the murals in progress!

This year, grades 6 and 7 students will have the opportunity to go to Camp Jubilee. Our dates are April 24th, 25th, and 26th. We will be hosting a parent info night on Thursday, Dec. 6 at 6pm.
