February 27th – March 3rd

Dear DG Families,
Our school Science Fair was last week and it was very well attended – thank you, families!.  We love how supportive the DG community is!  A big thank you, as well, to the participating students for sharing their learning and to their teachers for work in helping their students get ready and all the behind the scenes organization!

February is Black History Month

Do you know about Claude Tyson?

Claude Tyson was one of three Black servicemen, along with Vince Cadogan, and Harold Grosse, who served at the Vancouver Wireless Station – located at today’s Boundary Bay Airport.  As part of the Signal Corp, they were part of a secret intelligence gathering operation that monitored communications from the Soviet Union during the height of the Cold War.

Mr. Tyson married and raised his family on the base.  It was an interracial marriage, which was not widely accepted at the time.
