Dear DG Families,
With both Family Fun Night and Sports Day happening this week, it’s going to be action-packed!
The PAC is still looking for volunteers for Family Fun Night (and Sports Day). See the sign-up sheet, below, under the PAC section.
The PAC is also in need of some pop-up tents and extension cords for these events. If you can help out by lending yours, please email the PAC at pacdevongardens@gmail.com
And, finally, donations of cakes, cookies and cupcakes are needed for the Cake Walk. Please see info below, under the PAC Section.
SPORTS DAY – FRIDAY!
Please watch for more Sports Day information coming home on Monday, from your child’s teacher.
We are looking forward to Sports Day on Friday, and are hopeful that the weather will cooperate. Our theme for Sports Day this year is “SUMMER” at students will be assigned to one of 4 colour teams: red, blue, green and yellow, and are encouraged to dress in their team colour on Sports Day. Students will be bringing home a notice on Monday indicating their colour team.
If they’d like, students are also welcome to wear any SUMMER-themed clothing items that match their team colour (eg. summer camp shirt, t-shirt from a place your family has visited in the summer, tie-dye t-shirt, tropical print shorts/shirts, funky sun glasses, etc..).
As this is an outside day, students should come prepared for the weather (sunscreen, a hat, a jacket, dress in layers, etc…). They should also have a water bottle (labelled with their name) on hand for the day.
Primary students (K- 3) are welcome to participate in the Wheels Parade to start the day. Participation is voluntary and not required. Students who wish to participate are encouraged to decorate their wheeled transportation according to their team colour. Wheels must be clearly labeled with your child’s name and division (eg. with masking tape). A reminder that rollerblades, skateboards, and anything motorized is not permitted and helmets are mandatory for participating in this event.
Students who are participating in the Wheels parade should drop off their wheels and helmet (required) in the gym on Friday morning between 8:25 and 8:40 am (look for their division cone)
We would encourage parents to take their child’s wheels home right after the parade. Parents may also pick up their child’s wheels at lunch or after school. The remainder of the day, the gym will be locked.
Our PAC has organized special Panago lunch on Sports Day, which has been previously ordered online. If you have did not previously order Panago for your child, please ensure they come with a lunch on Sports Day. All students will also require a quick, easy to eat snack on Sports Day, as well as a water bottle (labelled with your child’s name).
There is not early dismissal on Sports Day. However, we aim to finish sports day between 2:30-2:40 pm so that there is time for clean-up.
Parents are welcome to come, watch and cheer for students on Sports Day. We do ask that you leave pets at home, however, as this will be a busy, noisy day.
Please watch for more Sports Day information coming home on Monday, from your child’s teacher.
Volunteers Needed to Water our Garden Area this Summer – can you help?
You may have seen the Western Red Cedar tree and the planter boxes on the front grass area of the school. This area is well-used as an outdoor learning space during the school year and both the tree and the garden boxes require regular watering. While school is in session, teachers and students take care of this. During the summer, though, we need your help. For the past two summers we have had families volunteer to water the garden boxes and cedar tree and we need to do the same, this summer.
As we’ve done for the past two summers, we will put together a schedule of volunteers to take turns doing the watering so that it’s a manageable task (many hands make light work). You will have access to water and a hose at the school, and we will show you exactly what needs to be done before the end of the school year.
If you are willing to help out with watering this summer (particularly if you live nearby!), please email Ms Grund at bgrund@deltaschools.ca And, if you helped with this last summer, you’re now an expert, so we’d love to have you on the team again this year!
Student Crossing Guard Schedule:
Thank you for your continued support of the crossing guard program at Devon Gardens. This important leadership role helps keep the students safe. If you know you are going to be away for an extended period because of a planned vacation, please encourage your child to find their own replacements and to let Ms. Grund know. All Crossing Guards have been provided the schedule.
