June 16th – 20th, 2025

Hey Dragons,
It was great to see everyone at Sports Day on Friday!  Putting together that kind of a day takes a lot of behind the scenes organization and our staff, along with our awesome Grade 7 leaders, did a fabulous job!  One of the highlights of the day was the parent/guardian potato sack race! You guys were amazing!  On that note, we want to give a special shout out to all our dragon dads, grandfathers and father figures!  We hope you’re having a great weekend!  Happy Father’s Day and thanks for all you do to support our DG Dragons!

Lost and Found

There are quite a few items in our lost and found and not much time left to claim them!  Please encourage your child to come and take a look for any items belonging to them (and/or come on by, yourselves, after school).      Unclaimed items will be taken to a donation centre before the end of the school year.

LAST CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS – WE NEED YOU!

Can you Help Keep the School Garden Alive this Summer?

We are still in need of a few more families to help water the garden over the summer.   Our school garden boxes and red cedar tree (on the front grass area) is well-used as an outdoor learning space.  They do require regular watering, though.   While school is in session, teachers and students take care of this.  During the summer, though, we need your help.   For the past four summers we have had families volunteer to water the garden boxes and cedar tree and we need to do the same, this summer.

We will put together a schedule of volunteers to take turns doing the watering so that it’s a manageable task (many hands make light work).  You will have access to water and a hose at the school, and we will show you exactly what needs to be done before the end of the school year.

Thank you to those families who have already signed up.   We still need a few more, though.

If you are willing to help out with watering this summer (particularly if you live nearby!), please email Mme Hamilton at hhamilton@deltaschools.ca   And, if you’ve helped with this in previous summers, you’re now an expert, so we’d love to have you on the team again this year!

Are you interested in hosting an International Student?  Or, do you know of a family who might be?

Come join a winning team! Delta School District International Programs is currently recruiting homestay families for international students coming to the Delta School District for September 2025. We are in the middle of placing students now and are looking for homes that want to welcome a student who has chosen Delta as their study abroad experience.
This year, Delta School District International Programs was nominated, for the 6th time in a row, for the StudyTravel Secondary School Award and this time we won!
Homestay families play such a huge role in the experience students have during their time abroad. This award is shared with all the wonderful homestay families who provide the best experience they can for students. We want to invite other families to join the experience and host an international student with Delta School District.
In addition to the September students (the majority of them will arrive on August 23rd and 24th) We also have 3-week English Language Learner (ELL) programs in July 2025 and August 2025. They will arrive from all over the world and have a strong desire to be in Delta. As mentioned, we are internationally recognized as a top destination for students wanting a study abroad experience in a Secondary School.
From September 2025, the reimbursement for hosting a student will increase to $1,200 per month. Multiple students from different nationalities can be hosted in one home. The majority of students in the homestay program are from Germany, Japan, Spain, Italy, and Brazil. At the moment, more that 20 different countries are represented in the homestay program.
Many students are looking for a family connection and being a part of a family during their stay in Delta. Their study periods range from 3 months to half a school year, to a full school year, to multiple years. The short-term summer programs are where host parents welcome younger English learners into their home. It is a great way for students to see what school (and life) in Delta is like and for new homestay families to get a taste of what hosting is like.
If you are interested in hosting, please reach out to homestay@godelta.ca. If you are not able to host but know of a family who can, please send them our way. There are referral bonuses available for referring families.
