June 8 -12

Dear DG Families,

It has been great to see some of our students return to school this week.

If your child has not been in attendance and you would like them to attend school in June, please email Mme Greenhalgh at egreenhalgh@deltasd.bc.ca and Ms. Tee stee@deltasd.bc.ca  Please note, you may not bring your child to school without contacting us first as we need to ensure we are adhering to Ministry mandated school density targets, which for us means no more than 159 students on any given day.

School density targets are in place to ensure the number of students in schools is manageable, social distancing requirements can be followed  and a healthy and safe environment can be maintained for students and staff. In order to stay within the density targets, K – 5 students may attend up to 2 days per week and students in grades 6 and 7 may attend 1 day per week.  Arrangements can also be made for children of Essential Service Workers to attend up to 5 days per week.  Again, please contact the school directly if this applies to you.   The students currently attending have been carefully scheduled on specific days.  We would need to also preschedule any additional students wishing to attend.

We understand and appreciate that not all families are comfortable sending their children back to school at this stage of the Pandemic.  This is an individual decision parents must make, and we respect their right to do so. For those students not returning to school,  remote/online learning will continue, at a reduced level, as teachers need to balance in-class instruction with remote teaching.

Adjustment to Staggered Entry/Exit Times for Students Attending

For those students who are attending school, please note there has been a slight adjustment to the entry and dismissal times (line up spots remain the same):

Again, this pertains to students who are scheduled to attend.   Questions? Please contact your child’s teacher.

Virtual PAC Meeting

There will be a virtual/video conference PAC Meeting on Monday, June 8th at 4:30 p.m.

The purpose of this meeting will be to hold Executive Member Elections for the positions of Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer, Secretary, Gaming Representative, District PAC Representative, Canadian Parents for French Representative and members at large.

The Devon Gardens PAC is active and coordinates a number of programs and events throughout the year.  Special happenings like pancake breakfasts, special lunch, snack and popcorn days, Family Fun Night, and more are all PAC organized.  They also undertake fundraising for new school/classroom equipment purchases and improvement projects, like the recent beautiful library transformation.   None of this would be possible without our PAC.  Without sufficient parent volunteers, some programs and events may have to be discontinued. Please consider joining the PAC. Your contribution will aid in the success of the students and school. PAC needs you! Become involved!

Your contribution will aid in the success of the students and school.  Any school parent can nominate themselves for a PAC position.  More details will be provided at the PAC meeting.

If you would like to attend the virtual PAC meeting, please RSVP by sending an email to pacdevongardens@gmail.com and you will be provided with virtual connection details closer to the scheduled meeting.

Picking up of Student Supplies

We have started scheduling times where parents can come and pick up their children’s belongings from school.   Pick-up is from the side doors of the gym in the undercover area.  When coming to the school, we ask that you please park in the parent parking lot across the street as the upper parking lot is reserved for staff. Also, please bring back any school items that your child may have at home still (library books, home reading books, school jerseys).  If you are returning home reading books, please clearly label whose class they are to be returned to.  Lost and Found items can be found in boxes in the undercover area as well.

In order to ensure this is done in an organized and safe way, parents are asked to pre-register for a time-slot.   Please follow the link below for your child’s division.  Please list all siblings so you only need to come once.

You are able to edit the sheet to insert your child’s first and last name, plus the names of your other children.  We trust you to not delete or alter other people’s entries.

Monday, June 8 – Div 14,15,16, 17, 6, 7, 8

Tuesday, June 9 – Div 11,12, 2, 3

Wednesday, June 10 – Div 13, 14

Thursday, June 11 – Div 4, 5

Please note that we will open up Friday, June 12 for anybody who was unable to pick up their items earlier.  A link will be sent out by Tuesday but the times will be the same from 9:05 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.

Thank you for ensuring that our school items are returned.
