Dear DG Families,
It’s the last week of May! Please read on for this week’s news …

When your child is absent
Student absences must be reported directly to the office, rather than through your child’s teacher. Of course, you can also let the teacher know, but it is very important to let the office know, directly. As such, if your child will be absent from school, please remember to either call our office at 604-581-6185, or email the school’s general mailbox at devongardens.elem@deltaschools.ca , to let us know. Please indicate your child’s full name (first and last) as well as their division number and/or teacher’s name.
When leaving a voicemail message, please speak clearly and slowly. There are many times we are unable to make out what has been said due to people mumbling, speaking too quickly, or excessive background noise.
Welcome to Kindergarten
We are looking forward to welcoming our incoming Kindergarten students, and their parents/guardians, on Wednesday afternoon! Groups of soon-to-be Ks and their parents will be arriving shortly after dismissal on Wednesday. This is the one time that we’re asking our current families to leave promptly at dismissal time and not hang around too long after school (to play on the playground or chat with staff, etc…). The new families may be a bit nervous coming for the first time, so please give them a friendly wave and say hello if you see them arriving just as you’re leaving.
Parent/Guardian Appreciation – Friday Morning!
We have such a great school, with positive and supportive parents and guardians, and our staff wants to appreciate you! We hope you will be able to stop by DG this Friday, before school, for our Parent/Guardian Appreciation Event. Whether you’re able to stay for a bit of a visit, or just pick up a to-go goodie bag on your way, we look forward to seeing you to say “hello and thank you” to all our parents and guardians!
Grade 7 Bottle Drive
To help support end-of-year activities for the grade 7 students, the Grade 7 parents are planning a bottle drive on Saturday, May 31st from 9 am to 1 pm in the school’s lower parking lot. Please save your bottles and cans and bring them to the bottle drive on May 31!
Summer Volunteers Needed to Water our Garden Area!
You may have seen the Western Red Cedar tree and the planter boxes on the front grass area of the school. This area is well-used as an outdoor learning space during the school year and both the tree and the garden boxes require regular watering. While school is in session, teachers and students take care of this. During the summer, though, we need your help to keep these areas watered.
We will put together a schedule of volunteers to take turns doing the watering so that it’s a manageable task (many hands make light work). You will have access to water and a hose at the school, and we will show you exactly what needs to be done before the end of the school year.
If you are willing to help out with watering this summer (particularly if you live nearby!), please email Mme Hamilton at hhamilton@deltaschools.ca And, if you’ve helped with watering the garden in previous summers, you’re now an expert, so we’d love to have you on the team again this year!
