November 10th – 14th, 2025

Dear DG Families,

Remembrance Day Assembly

We will be holding our Remembrance Day assembly on Monday, November 10th at 9:15 a.m.   Students who are members of Cadets, Brownies, Scouts, Cubs, etc… are welcome to dress in their uniform for our assembly. They should bring clothes to change into afterwards.

Parents/guardians and family members are also invited to the assembly. Entry will be through the exterior gym doors (not the office) and doors will open just after 9:00 a.m.

Assembly protocol and etiquetteThe Remembrance Day assembly is quite different from other school events parents and guests (and students) attend.   This is a solemn occasion.  Audience members should remove their hats upon entering the gym and there should be no applause, unnecessary noise or photography* during the assembly. We also ask that you arrive on-time and stay for the duration of the assembly.   We will also have a spot for students who arrive late tomorrow morning (after the assembly has started) where they can wait without interrupting the program.

We will be collecting donations for the veterans Poppy Fund.  Students will be given a poppy prior to the assembly.  Please consider sending a donation with your child (these can be given to your child’s teacher).   We will also be collecting donations at the gym door.  All contributions go toward supporting the Legion’s meaningful work in the Delta community. Your participation and generosity are truly appreciated.

*It is generally considered most respectful to avoid using your phone, including for photos, during a solemn event like a Remembrance Day assembly. The primary purpose is to be fully present and show respect for those being honoured.   If you must take a photo, do so in a quiet and respectful manner.

Please make sure your child has extra clothes at school

A reminder that ALL students (yes, even grade 7s) should have a change of clothes at school, in a ziplock bag labelled with their name.   That way, if students get wet or slip on the muddy field they’ll have clean, dry clothes to change into.   If your child does end up changing into their spare clothes during the school day, please also remember to send a new set the next day.

Adult Crossing Guard Disruption

We are experiencing a turnover in our adult crossing guards, for both the 112th crossing and the River Road crossing. Please be advised that we will NOT have crossing guards at these locations until replacements have been secured.
Please cross with care.
If you are aware of anyone in the DG community who may be interested in taking on casual crossing guard duties, please have them contact our Vice Principal, Mr. Rodgers at jrodgers@deltaschools.ca to express their interest.  Please note, this is a paid position.

Weeks of Giving – Shoe Box Donations

Believe it or not, the holidays are just around the corner!  At this time of year, one thing we focus on with our students is learning how help and give others hope for the holidays.  This year we will once again be preparing gift boxes for Whole Way House Society.

For the remainder of the month, we will be collecting various new items that will then be assembled into wrapped gift boxes, providing warmth and happiness to low-income vulnerable seniors and veterans.

We have asked each division to focus on particular category of items (please see the information below).

Each Box of Hope is filled with love and essentials:

  • something sweet to eat (store bought only)
  • a tote bag and/or mittens
  • a home decor item
  • a beautiful Christmas ornament

Here’s what each division will be bringing:

Students will also be making cards to be included in the Boxes of Hope.

Please ensure all donations are:

  • NEW and GENDER-NEUTRAL
  • age and interest appropriate for adult seniors (eg. no kids toys or child-sized mittens)
  • between $5 and $8 in value (this is to ensure the equity of each gift package)
  • STORE-BOUGHT, if edible, (sealed and packaged) as well as soft (and easy to eat!) for seniors who may have dentures or sensitive teeth
  • sent to school prior to November 28th

We would also love donations of shoe boxes, with lids (in good condition) and Christmas wrapping paper.

Our goal is to put together 60 gift boxes

Thank you, in advance, for supporting this initiative!

Christmas Hampers for Delta Families

For the past few years, we have partnered up with another school in Delta and exchanged families in need, in order to provide them with Christmas hampers/gifts.  This is something we are doing again this year.  Our sister school will provide hampers/gifts for our families and in turn we are collecting items to help their families. We do this in the spirit of trying to keep things private and confidential for the families to whom we are donating.   Please keep any eye out for more information coming soon.

Spirit Wear Orders … Coming Soon!

We are anxiously awaiting the arrival of our new Spirit Wear and, if you placed an order last month, then you probably are too!  The supplier has said our order should be delivered sometime next week!   Once the orders arrive at the school, it will take us a little time to sort out the individual orders before they’re sent home with students, but we’ll work as quickly as we can.   Thank you for your patience!

Created by Kids Art Fundraiser

Our talented Devon Gardens students will be busy creating beautiful artwork and, soon, their masterpieces will be transformed into one-of-a-kind keepsakes you can order and cherish forever!
Support our school while celebrating your child’s creativity!
All proceeds go toward supporting Devon Gardens PAC initiatives that benefit our students and school community.

Very Important – Students will be bringing home their original art creations, and an order form, on November 18th.  They will then need to return their art creation and order form to school by November 24th.

Order forms and original art creations will be collected and sent in to “Created by Kids” (the company we are working with).    In order to keep their art clean and uncrumpled to and from school, please send a large ziplock bag or envelope to school with your child prior to November 17th.

As the artwork cannot be folded, your child’s ziplock bag/envelope needs to be big enough to fit a regular letter size paper (8 1/2 x 11)
