Dear DG Families,
A reminder that Monday, November 27th is a Professional Development Day and there is no school for students.
Week(s) of Giving
At this time of year, one thing we focus on at Devon Gardens, is how help and give others hope for the holidays. This week, we continue our Week(s) of Giving initiative. This year we are once again supporting two organizations, Fraser Region Aboriginal Friendship Centre (FRAFCA) and The Orchard, Whole Way House Society, with shoebox gift packages.
We will be collecting various (NEW) items, suitable for a variety of ages (although primarily for Kids and Teens) that will then be assembled into shoe boxes and wrapped as gifts.
The schedule for donations is:
November 23rd, 24th, 28th: Something to sip (hot chocolate, tea, coffee, cute mugs, travel tumblers, Starbucks or Tim Hortons Gift Cards, etc…)
November 29th, 30th & December 1st: Something to do / Home Decor (picture frame, art, posters, ornaments, cross word puzzle books, sodoku, rubics cubes, colouring books & crayons/pencil crayons, sketch books, playing cards, travel board games, etc..)
December 4th, 5th & 6th Something Sweet to Eat (cookies, candies, chocolates, restaurant gift cards, etc…)
December 7th & 8th: any items you wish to donate but forgot to send on the previous days.
We are also hoping for donations of shoe boxes (with lids), as well as Christmas wrapping paper.
In addition to our Week(s) of giving initiative, exchanging families with another Delta school to put together Christmas Hampers, as well as collecting canned food items, at our Christmas Concerts, for the Food Bank.
Please stay tuned for more information, coming soon.

A reminder that the Christmas Concert “Best Seats in the House” forms are due Friday, December 1st!
This year our Christmas Concerts will take place on Tuesday, December 19th . We are offering you the opportunity to win the best seats in the house (in the first four rows)!

Parking Reminders (Safety Concerns & VERY Upset Neighbours!)
There are a million reasons why Devon Gardens is the best school ever. Ample parking and minimal traffic is not among them!
We are noticing some unsafe situations and also fielding an increase in complaints (from members of our school community, as well as from neighbours who live nearby) when it comes to parking and traffic.
For example:
- double parking/blocking other cars in the parent/visitor parking lot
- parking on the sidewalk along Russell Drive, blocking pedestrians, parents with strollers, etc..
- parking too far into the road (Russell Drive) in a way that blocks traffic
- parking in a marked crosswalk
- not parking at all and just dropping students off in the middle of the street
- running across the middle of Russell Drive, instead of using the crosswalk (or encouraging kids to do so)
- parking on Downs Road (there is no student drop off and pick up, here)
- parking in the staff parking lot, leaving school staff without a spot
- parking across neighbours driveways blocking them from being able to enter/leave, resulting in calls to the Delta Police
Please do not do these things, even “just for a minute”
We know that traffic and parking can be hectic near the school at drop off and pick-up times. We all need to work together as ensuring our students get to and from school safely is everyone’s responsibility.
Please do your part to help reduce stress and traffic congestion by:
- Leaving yourself plenty of time to get to school. If you must drive, park a little further away and walking the rest of the way (it’s a great way to get some extra steps in!)
- Being courteous and safe when dropping off or picking up children from school
- Talking to your kids about safe travel practices like using crosswalks, listening to the crossing guards, looking all ways before crossing the street and not jaywalking across the roadways as a shortcut.
- Not parking in the staff parking lot, even if you think you see an empty spot. There are no extra spots in our staff parking lot for parents/guardians, visitors or guests. We have just enough parking for staff. Not all of our staff have the same start times or lunch break. We also have staff who work at more than one school in the same day. At all times, the staff parking lot is for staff only.
Thank you, in advance, for your assistance and cooperation!

PAC Fundraisers ongoing throughout the year

Introducing the Kinder Books Loyalty Program for schools! This year-long fundraising program is designed to help schools earn credit towards purchasing books for their school library.
Here’s how it works: for every net book purchase made at Kinder Books, the school will earn 10% of the purchase amount towards a credit at our store. At the end of the fundraiser, we will notify the school of their credit amount. The school can then decide to use the credit at the beginning of the new school year or at the end of the calendar year.
The best part? This program applies to all book purchases at our store, including special orders for kids and books for adults. Plus, orders can be placed online at www.kinderbooks.ca, making it easy for grandparents or other family members who live out of town to participate. Simply mention your school’s name at checkout, and we’ll credit your school accordingly.
Online orders can be picked up at the store during business hours or shipped through Canada Post

Return-it Express
PAC has created a school fundraising account. To participate, simply bring your containers to the depot in sealed, clear bags, and enter the registered phone number, 604-581-6185, into the Express kiosk. You will be prompted to select the number of bags you’re dropping off, the kiosk will automatically print the same number of sticker tags displaying our PACs unique Express account code. Tag each of your bags with a sticker tag and drop the bags off in the designated Express drop-off area to be counted. For a list of Return-it Express location visit https://www.return-it.ca/locations/express/

Cobs Bread Dough Raiser Program
This program enables us to raise money for our school throughout the year! Be sure to mention Devon Gardens Elementary (or code 7806) each time you make a purchase at COBS Bread Scott 72 Centre; they will donate 10% of your purchase back to our school.

Level Ground Trading
Level Ground is a BC business that works with fair trade coffee, tea, dried fruit and spice producers.
- Supporters enter the code devongardens in the ‘discount code’ field at the checkout.
- All products on our web store qualify for the fundraiser. Orders must be $40 or more. These orders also qualify for free shipping to most addresses in Canada (there is a shipping fee on all orders shipped to NU/NT/YK). All orders are paid for through our web site and shipped directly to your supporters. No need to collect orders or distribute products to households.
- Your fundraising amount is 20% of total sales. So on a $100 order your school will receive $20.
