Dear DG Families,
Ms Grund will be organizing our Halloween Parade, which will take place tomorrow morning (October 31st) shortly after 9:00 am. As the forecast is calling for rain, the parade will take place mostly inside the school. Parents are welcome view the parade from the gym or the undercover area by the kindergarten doors and the portable at the side of the school. We ask that you only take pictures of your child. If you happen to take pictures of children that are not yours, please do not post publicly on social media or share the pictures with others. We can only post pictures of students if we have permissions. We look forward to seeing you at this festive community building event!
Students who wish to dress up for the parade should come to school dressed in their Halloween Costume. Students will want to bring an extra set of clothes for after the parade. This will ensure that costumes are kept safe and intact for trick or treating tomorrow evening.
Guidelines for Halloween Costumes at School:
- should not be too scary
- should be age appropriate
- that promote illegal activities, drugs/alcohol, or could be offensive or perpetuate a stereotype of someone’s culture, gender, heritage, or religion are not ok for school
- must be safe & comfortable. Students must be able to sit, walk, breathe, see and hear. Anything that limits vision or restricts movement can lead to falling & other injuries. That’s no fun on Halloween! (students may wear masks during the parade, though)
- must be in line with our dress guidelines (students are sufficiently covered and dressed for the weather)
Also:
- toy weapons are not to be brought to school
- not all students like to dress up (and that’s ok, too!)
- since costumes worn to school may not survive the day intact, consider a spare/alternate costume and save the “real” one for trick or treating
Crossing Guard Schedule
A huge thank you to our student crossing guards! We appreciate the many students that volunteer their time to keep our school community safe before and after school. As this is such an important role, we ask that students find their own replacements if they are not able to do their crossing guard duty. Please review the updated crossing guard schedule with your child so they understand when their crossing guard duty takes place. Ms Grund is in charge of our Student Crossing Guard program, so please contact her with any questions.

Winter is finally upon us!
The rain has finally come … with a vengeance! Ensuring students come dressed for the weather isn’t just important for playing outside. It’s also important in case of an emergency requiring evacuation of the building.
In addition to ensuring your children come dressed for the weather, we ask that all students have a change of clothes at school (yes, even grade 7s). Your child’s spare clothing should be labelled with their name, in a ziplock bag, and left either in the classroom or in your child’s backpack.
Project of Heart Commemoration Mural
Over the past 2 years, our school has been working through the steps of Project of Heart, learning about the history and legacy of Indian Residential Schools in Canada. Through this project, students decorated tiles as a way to commemorate those who died as a result of the residential school experience, and to acknowledge the survivors. The tiles have been put together into a permanent commemoration exhibit (a mural) which has now been installed in main hallway of the school.
A HUGE thank you to DG parents Corinne Kessel and James Boyko, and their company Greenscape Design & Decor, for assisting us in creating the beautiful mural with the commemorative tiles. Here are some photos of the installation that took place Thursday evening, as well as students looking for their tiles on Friday morning
