Dear DG Families,
Thank you for your continued efforts to work with us in following COVID safety guidelines by having children wear masks at school, wearing masks yourselves, and maintaining physical distance, at drop off and pick-up times, and by leaving the school grounds promptly; not staying to play at dismissal – even as the weather gets nicer (we know this is hard!). We’re especially asking for your cooperation with this last part as we still have quite a few people hanging around after school. Once you have picked up your children, please head home rather than waiting for us to ask you to clear the school grounds.
Following these safety protocols not only help people from potentially getting sick, they also help prevent healthy people from potentially having to self-isolate. With the more recent exposures at nearby schools, we are noticing that Fraser Health is asking more people to self-isolate than they were previously. And, it is worrisome to see the daily case count rising at such an alarming rate. Continuing to carefully follow COVID safety guidelines is the best way we can protect ourselves and others.
Thank you, DG Community, we are so appreciative of your support! 👍🏻👍🏻
New Email Addresses Coming
The Delta School District is transitioning to Microsoft Outlook for emails and Teams over the next number of months. Some of our staff members have transitioned to Outlook already and all our staff will have transitioned to Microsoft Outlook by the end of this month.
From Outlook, our emails will end with @deltaschools.ca instead of the @deltasd.bc.ca If you are sending an email to a staff member, forwarding from @deltasd.bc.ca has been arranged for the rest of the calendar year so there is no need to worry that your email did not get to us. Our intent in letting you know is so that you can be aware that emails sent to you by school staff members will be coming from @deltaschools.ca address.
Student emails will not be affected at all as Delta is keeping Google and @deltalearns.ca as the primary platform for students.
Cedar Giving Tree
As part of the Delta School District’s commitment to reconciliation, the District is undertaking a project to have a cedar tree planted at every school and district site as a way to show appreciation and respect for the local First Nation culture. The City of Delta is generously donating the cedar trees.
The Truth and Reconciliation Call to Action #63 states:
“We call on the Council of the Ministers of Education, Canada to maintain an annual commitment to Aboriginal education issues, including:
(iii) “Building student capacity for intercultural understanding, empathy, and mutual respect”.
Our school is excited to be taking part in this initiative! We anticipate that our tree will be planted sometime around April 20th, on the grass area at the front of the school.
The cultural significance of the cedar tree to many First Nation people along coastal and central BC is indisputable and reaches back through time immemorial. In this short video, Nathan Wilson, Indigenous Cultural Enhancement Facilitator, explains …

Exploring Our Relationship With Alcohol During Stressful Times
Many factors may make us more likely to drink alcohol during a crisis. Anxiety, isolation and stress are all common during this time of COVID-19. And unfortunately, science has shown us that one of the most powerful triggers for substance use is stress.
Tempest is the first and only virtual recovery program that provides effective, engaging, holistic and lifelong care to anyone who wants to change their relationship with alcohol. Tempest was founded by Holly Whitaker, author of the New York Times best-seller book~Quit Like a Woman.~Tempest’s brand has changed the narrative around a normally stigmatized life event resulting in extensive press coverage when Chrissy Teigen posted on Instagram how the Tempest approach helped her to get sober, along with numerous news features such as on Today, GMA, and Vogue.
Facilitatated by Ruby Mehta
Ruby is the Director of Clinical Strategy at Tempest. She is also a licensed clinical social worker and holds a certificate in Integrative Trauma Studies from the National Institute for the Psychotherapies in NYC. Prior to joining Tempest, Ruby provided therapy to individuals struggling with depression, anxiety and substance use within her own private practice as well as within community mental health centres. Ruby lives in New Jersey with her partner and three energetic little kids.
