Dear DG Families,
Jump Rope for Heart
We will be starting Jump Rope for Heart activities in P.E. this week. Students will learn about heart health, how to skip, and various kinds of skipping tricks. If students wish to fundraise for The Heart and Stroke Foundation they can do so online at jumpropeforheart.ca and click on ‘Donate to a School’ up until Feb.19th (due to Covid 19 there will be no donation envelopes for cash donations this year). Prizes from fundraising will also be delivered online in the form of gift cards to Toys R Us, Indigo, Amazon or WalMart. All students are encouraged to go online and track their “Easy Healthy Habits” at jumpropeforheart.ca to earn virtual badges, whether or not they choose to fundraise! This year is the 30th year that Devon Gardens has participated in Jump Rope for Heart! As a community we have raised over $100,000 for the Heart and Stroke Foundation in that time. Way to go DG!
Student Led Conference Portfolios
Just a reminder that teachers will be sending home student led conference portfolios with your child on Thursday, January 28th. While the format of what is being sent home may look different, depending on the class/teacher, the intent for all students is the same – to have your child share his/her learning with you at home. Portfolios and feedback forms will be due back to the teacher by Thursday, February 4th.
Cold Weather
The forecast is calling for chilly weather! Please ensure that your child comes to school prepared/dressed to be outside (with jacket, boots, mittens/gloves, and a hat). As well, please pack an extra change of clothes for your child(ren), regardless of their age.
At this time, there is call for snow on Sunday. While it is unlikely that school will be cancelled due to snow, should this happen any district wide closure or decisions will be decided and communicated by 7 a.m. on that day. Any announcements will be made via radio stations (CBC AM 690, CKNW AM 980, News AM 1130, Fairchild AM 1470) and via TV stations (CTV BC, CBC, City TV, Global BC). Information will also be posted on the school district website.
