Dear DG Families,
Emergency Drill on Tuesday
There are many ways that we, at school, focus on the safety and well being of our students. For instance, we utilize sign-in/out procedures for students and visitors to the school, and we also practice safety procedures such as emergency drills. This school year, we have already practised both Fire and Earthquake drills and, this Tuesday morning, between recess and lunch, we will be practising a “Hold and Secure” drill.
The “Hold and Secure” procedure, typically allows the school to continue with the normal school day, but does not allow for unnecessary room-to-room transit. Nor does it allow for entry/exit to or from the building.
This procedure is most commonly used when an incident is occurring outside the school building, on or off school property, and there is no immediate or active threat. However, it can also be used to restrict movement inside the building or keep people away from a particular area of the school (eg. a serious medical emergency that would be distressing for others to see).
During the drill on Tuesday, our Delta Police Liaison Officer will be on site to assist. All interior and exterior doors (including the front door) will be locked and blinds and windows closed. Students will continue to work quietly in their classrooms but movement within the building will be restricted.
Although most students will have participated in this type of drill before, teachers will be reviewing the procedures with their students.
Please Note: the front door will be locked during the drill and visitors will not be granted access to the school until the drill is finished. If you arrive at the school while the drill is in progress, please wait patiently and know that the doors will open once the drill is complete. If you are just coming to drop something off (eg. a lunch) and do not wish wait, please just leave the item outside the front door and we will retrieve it when the drill is complete. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
