Week at a Glance Nov 2 – 6

Dear DG Families,

Thank you to all the students that came to school dressed up in their costumes!

Daylight Savings Time

Just a reminder that we have changed our clocks on Sunday (November 1st) morning by turning back our clocks by 1 hour.

Photo Orders

Individual picture orders are due back to the school on Monday, November 2nd.  Retakes will happen on Thursday, November 19th.

Emergency Preparedness

Thank you to those families who have already returned the $5/student donation towards our Emergency Preparedness plan.    These funds will be used to top up our existing Emergency Prep supplies and to purchase other, much needed, items.  Some of these include first aid kits for every division and activity bins (eg. books, puzzles, games, etc…) to help keep students occupied in the event of an earthquake or other emergency.  In such a situation, students may have to wait several hours (or longer)  until they can be picked up by a parent/guardian or designated emergency release adult.  If you haven’t yet contributed, and would still like to, donations can be submitted to your youngest child’s teacher or directly to the office.

Devon Gardens Spirit Wear Orders

We are pleased to offer Devon Garden’s students and families the opportunity to purchase Devon Garden’s spirit wear.  This year, we are offering 2 designs for our logo (Design A is a new look for us and Design B is the previous logo with the Dragon’s tail).  Also, we will be offering families the opportunity to purchase either a pull over hoodie, a zip hoodie, a t-shirt, a baseball shirt, or a long sleeve shirt.

Should you want to order any Devon Garden’s spirit wear, orders are due back to the school by Monday, November 16th.  (This is printed on each copy sent home with students).

Please make cheques payable to Devon Gardens Elementary.  Naturally, purchase of any item is completely voluntary.

Introducing our 2020-2021 ECO Green Team

We’d like to introduce this year’s Green Team, which is led by Ms. Chan, Mme Santos and Ms. Burr. This year’s Green Team is made up of Mme Santos’ and M Lawler/Mme Schwarz’ 6/7 students, Ms. Chan’s K/1 students, and Ms. Burr’s K students. Green Team this year will be working on brainstorming and finding efficient ways to conserve energy at home, at school and in their community. The Grade 6/7 ECO Team members will be making videos to help teach the Kindergarten and Grade 1 ECO Team members about energy conservation. ECO Team will be sharing what they learn with the rest of the school so that everyone can learn more about how to conserve energy!

Remembrance Day Assembly

Although we will not be able to hold our traditional Remembrance Day Assembly, we will still be honouring the day through a virtual Remembrance Day Assembly for our students on Tuesday, November 10th at 11 a.m.

On-Line Report Cards – Another Important Reason to Sign-on to Parent Connect

Please make sure you can access Parent Connect.  This year, all report cards will be online and viewable on Parent Connect!  https://cimsweb.deltasd.bc.ca/schoolconnect/parentsignone.aspx

We understand there are sometimes extenuating circumstances.  As such, you may request a printed copy of your child’s report card.  Should you wish to do so, please send a note or email to your child’s teacher by Tuesday, December 1st.  (A reminder will be posted closer to the date again.)
