Week at a Glance Oct 19-23

Dear DG Families,

Thank you to all our families for “virtually” attending their parent teacher conference times.  We know that the shift to online platforms is new for some of us – a sincere thank you for learning alongside us.

October 24, 2020 Elections Day

Our school will be used as a polling station on Saturday, October 24th.  Extra cleaning will take place after the polling day to ensure that our school has been properly sanitized prior to Monday morning.

Health and Safety Measures

We are now almost at the end of our second month of school.  As many of you may have heard from the news, there have been instances in specific Delta Schools where there was an individual confirmed with COVID that entered those particular schools.

We want to take this time to remind everyone that, within the school, our staff will continue to follow the health and safety measures that have been in place since the beginning of school.  That includes washing our hands regularly, ensuring extra cleaning daily by our custodians for high touch areas, assigning student cohort groups to certain play areas to avoid mixing of cohorts, ensuring that we are re-filling hand sanitizers and disinfectants in the classrooms, and continuing to limit access to our buildings.

We would like to ask your help as well.  Please help us by reminding your children and yourselves, as well, to head straight home right after school.  Despite frequent reminders to please go straight home after school, we have families who are continuing to disregard this request and are hanging around the school grounds.  This is not in compliance with COVID protocols.   We have received complaints from the community from residents who have seen groups of families hanging around, not socially distanced and, we have been issued a reminder from the School Board Office that this situation must be addressed.   As such, please be advised that if you are hanging around after school, we will need to ask you to leave the premises.

Fall weather

Just a reminder that as the weather gets cold and wet, please make sure that kids come dressed appropriately for the weatherPlease expect that kids will go out for recess and lunch, unless there is extreme weather. Please also be reminded that we do not have the capacity to allow kids come in before our morning bell.   Due to COVID restrictions, ALL students (yes, even grade 7s) should have a change of clothes at school.  Sitting in wet clothing is uncomfortable 🙁

Dressing for the weather is also a matter of safety in case of an Emergency ….   Ensuring students come dressed for the weather isn’t just important for playing outside.  It’s also important in case of an emergency requiring evacuation of the building.

Halloween 2020

We know that for many of our students, Halloween goes hand in hand with treats and candies.  A reminder that this year, we will not be able to have students bring in treats to share with their classmates.    Teachers will be letting you know more information about any individual class Halloween activities they have planned.

Virtual Halloween Event

As well, we will not be able to have our traditional Halloween parade.  However, we will be planning a virtual event!  Students will be able to wear their costumes to school in the morning as they have in previous years.  We will share, via photos, the costumes students are wearing.  More information and details will be sent out in next week’s email to parents.

Emergency Preparedness

Last week, we had our first earthquake drill on the Great BC Shakeout Drill Day.  This is a day where many, if not all schools in BC, practice what to do in the event of an earthquake.

A letter to the youngest or only child was also sent home regarding emergency preparedness at our school.

Crossing Guard Schedule

Should you need to find the crossing guard schedule, it is located in the club and activities page of our website.

As well, for your ready reference, here it is as well.  We are so very grateful for our student crossing guards for their help at our school.
