Week at a Glance Sept. 21 – 25

Dear DG Families,

Our first week of school was fantastic!  We want to thank all of our students, staff, and families for following our safety protocols, moving through the school safely, following our new staggered entry and exit times, and respecting the new normal of social distancing when not in our cohorts.  Your support means a lot to all of us – so again, thank you!

We continue to need the help of parents to be role models when it comes to practicing social distancing when on our playgrounds, particularly after school.  We are asking all our students and families to please head straight home at dismissal time.  Should you want to play at the playground after school, please come back after 3:45 p.m.

DG Open House

Our Open House is scheduled for Thursday, September 24th.  Unfortunately, due to COVID protocols we cannot invite families, physically,  into the school as we typically do. Instead, we   will be sending parents a video for our virtual open house.  We hope this will give you an inside view to our classrooms and a chance to meet staff at the school.

Snacks and Lunches

This year, we are wanting to have students pack out what was packed in their lunch.  That is, we ask that whatever comes in your child’s lunch bag goes home in their lunch bag, including empty juice boxes and food wrappers. In this way, we will create far less garbage at school and you will have a better idea of what your child is finishing for lunch.   It also reduces congestion at our hallway recycling stations, a spot where it’s more challenging for students to maintain physical distance

Masks

We are so very impressed with how many students are bringing and wearing masks at school.  Please help us by reminding your child to bring home his/her mask as we are finding some masks discarded on our school grounds.  A reminder, students are not required to wear masks but they are welcome to do so.

STUDENT PLANNERS

At Devon Gardens, students in grades one through seven use student planners. This is an excellent tool to help students develop effective habits and take responsibility for their learning.  Planners also help keep parents informed about their child’s schoolwork, and can also be a communication tool between parents and teachers.  Please watch for a notice coming home this Thursday.

Fall weather

Just a reminder that as the weather gets cold and wet, please make sure that kids come dressed appropriately for the weatherPlease expect that kids will go out for recess and lunch, unless there is extreme weather.
