June 23rd – 27th, 2025

Dear DG Families,

Happy Last Week!

We have such an amazing school community at Devon Gardens, and as we close out the school year, I want to extend a heartfelt thank all to all of our staff, students, and families for the support, cooperation and partnership throughout this school year.   And, of course, our AMAZING PAC!  Working together and the positive relationships we’ve built makes our school such an amazing place to be!

To those families who won’t be back with us next year, we wish you all the best in whatever comes next, be it a transition to secondary school for our Grad 7s, or a change of schools or communities for those families who are moving over the summer.

For those of you who will be back with us next school year, while « back to school » is probably the furthest thing from your minds right now, when the time does come (mid to late August), you will find updated  Back to School information posted to our school website.  All the important details about what to bring and where to go on the first day will be posted there, so please make a note to check the website towards the end of summer.  We’ll also send an email to families as a reminder.
In the meantime, we wish all our staff, students and families a wonderful summer break!

Please ensure you have communicated this to/made arrangements with your daycare and child care providers as needed.

The last day for staff is Friday, June 27th.    The school office will be closed at 4:00 pm on June 26th and will reopen at 8:30 am on August 25th.

To help celebrate the end of the school year and get your summer started with a sweet treat, at dismissal on Thursday (10:15 am), our amazing PAC will be setting up a cash-only concession in the undercover area.

Term 3 Learning Updates

Term 3 Learning Updates (report cards) will be available online, through Parent Connect, on Thursday, June 26th.   We will send an email to let all families know when they have been posted and are ready for viewing.

Lost and Found

There are quite a few items in our lost and found and not much time left to claim them!  Please encourage your child to come and take a look for any items belonging to them (and/or come on by, yourselves, after school).      Unclaimed items will be taken to a donation centre before the end of the week.

Staff Farewells

At the end of every school year, we unfortunately have to say goodbye to some of our staff members.   This year is no exception.

We would like to thank the following staff who will be moving on.  This list may change between now and the fall, however, we would like to share with all of you the staff we know are leaving at this time.

Please help us in thanking and saying a fond farewell to the following staff members; we wish them all the best as they transition into new positions at other schools:

  • Ms. Barnard – Relief/classroom support
  • M. Binnie – French Immersion

  • Ms. Dhanda – Education Assistant
  • Ms. Evanson, Education Assistant
  • Ms. Gill – Fine Arts
  • Mme Inducil – French Immersion/Learning Support
  • Mme Mangat – Education Assistant
  • Mme Nicholson – Relief/classroom support
  • Ms. Phee Hale – Learning Support
  • Ms. Sarsam – Education Assistant
  • Ms. Sran – Education Assistant
  • Mme Tardif – Learning Support
  • Ms. Totah – Montessori
  • Ms. Weel – Montessori
While nearly all of these positions were temporary, and we knew from the beginning we’d have to say goodbye to these staff members come the end of June, it still doesn’t make it any easier.  They’ve each formed meaningful connections to our students, families and staff and it’s tough to let them go!
As you know, we are also saying goodbye to Mme Hamilton, our Vice Principal.  Mme Hamilton has done such an outstanding job these last two years and we’re really going to miss her!   We know she will continue to do great things as the Vice Principal of Cliff Drive Elementary in Tsawwassen.

Families can purchase school supplies directly from School Start (per the information above), or use the same list to purchase your supplies wherever you like.   Remember, you don’t need to purchase the entire list of new items every year.  If your child already has supplies that are in good order from a previous year – please save money and the environment.  For example, you don’t need to purchase a new ruler, French-English dictionary, calculator, etc.. every year.   If the one(s) from last year are in good condition, use them again!  And, your child will not need all their school supplies the first week of school!

Emergency Preparedness Fee

Last year, the school district introduced an annual $10 Emergency Preparedness Fee to help ensure every school is equipped with essential emergency supplies – such as food, water, and first aid items – in the event of a major incident like an earthquake (see letter from May 2024). As of mid-June, we have collected more than $125,000, which is already being used to ensure each school is stocked with emergency food and water reserves.

Our ultimate goal is to maintain at least a three-day supply of food and water for every student. This annual fee, due at the beginning of each school year, plays a vital role in helping us meet that goal and allows us to replace supplies as they expire. In September, you’ll receive more details on how to pay this fee for the 2025/2026 school year. If your family requires financial support in relation to this fee, please contact the school office. Discretion will be maintained.

Are you interested in hosting an International Student?  Or, do you know of a family who might be?

Come join a winning team! Delta School District International Programs is currently recruiting homestay families for international students coming to the Delta School District for September 2025. We are in the middle of placing students now and are looking for homes that want to welcome a student who has chosen Delta as their study abroad experience.
This year, Delta School District International Programs was nominated, for the 6th time in a row, for the StudyTravel Secondary School Award and this time we won!
Homestay families play such a huge role in the experience students have during their time abroad. This award is shared with all the wonderful homestay families who provide the best experience they can for students. We want to invite other families to join the experience and host an international student with Delta School District.
In addition to the September students (the majority of them will arrive on August 23rd and 24th) We also have 3-week English Language Learner (ELL) programs in July 2025 and August 2025. They will arrive from all over the world and have a strong desire to be in Delta. As mentioned, we are internationally recognized as a top destination for students wanting a study abroad experience in a Secondary School.
From September 2025, the reimbursement for hosting a student will increase to $1,200 per month. Multiple students from different nationalities can be hosted in one home. The majority of students in the homestay program are from Germany, Japan, Spain, Italy, and Brazil. At the moment, more that 20 different countries are represented in the homestay program.
Many students are looking for a family connection and being a part of a family during their stay in Delta. Their study periods range from 3 months to half a school year, to a full school year, to multiple years. The short-term summer programs are where host parents welcome younger English learners into their home. It is a great way for students to see what school (and life) in Delta is like and for new homestay families to get a taste of what hosting is like.
If you are interested in hosting, please reach out to homestay@godelta.ca. If you are not able to host but know of a family who can, please send them our way. There are referral bonuses available for referring families.
