Dragon’s Breath Feb 4 – 8

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I hope you are warm and out of the cold when you are reading this.

I know many of you might be participating in some Super Bowl festivities. As for me, Football was never “my sport” and I just go to Super Bowl parties because I like chips. For those who are taking part in this yearly event, I hope that you have an amazing and safe time.

As you probably already know, there is a chance of snow this week. Please take extra precautions when coming to school. If possible, please give you and your kids extra time and please consider walking to school. This will help the amount of vehicle traffic we have at school.

Of course, please help your child make sure that they are dressed appropriately for the weather.

Parent Volunteers

One of the things we at the PAC hear most is “I would have been happy to help out, I just didn’t hear about it”. Put your name and email address on the link below and you will hear about when we need help to get Hot Lunches to the classrooms, when we need help popping popcorn (for example we need two people to help with this on the morning of Wednesday Feb 13), when we need help to set up for Family Fun Night, or help to sell freezies to the most excited kids on sports day. We as the PAC can’t do it all ourselves and we are really excited to meet some new parents at our school.  After our last two calls, we have had a total of 6 parents sign up to be informed when we need an hour or two of time to help with one of the activities at the school.  Please consider adding your name and helping out when it works with your schedule.
Thank you

student led conferences

Student Led Conferences are coming up on February 12 and 13. Please note that the purpose of Student Led Conferences are meant to give your children an opportunity to share their learning with you. Teachers will work with students to prepare them for this day. This is much different than a parent teacher interview. Teachers will only be there as a facilitator for your child’s presentation. Questions should for the most part be directed towards your child. If you have further questions for your child’s teacher, please make an appointment at a later time. Remember, that your child worked hard to prepare for their student led conference. Please allow them to lead the conference in the manner that they practiced.

Student Led Conference Information

  • Tuesday, Feb 12 from 2:20 – 6:20 pm  (last session 6:00 pm)

  • Wednesday, Feb 13 from 1:00 – 2:00 pm  (last session 1:40 pm)

Parent Connect will be open for parents to start booking their student-leds from Monday Feb 4 at 9:00am to Friday Feb 8.

Please see the parent instructions below.

Our Kindergarten registration day is Wednesday, Feb 13 from 9:00am to 12:00pm. Is your child ready start Kindergarten in September?  Do you know anyone else who’s ready to start Kindergarten in September? Please feel free to pass on this information.

Ready, Set, Learn

A reminder that Devon Gardens, in partnership with Gray, McCloskey, and Richardson will be holding a free morning event for any children turning 3, 4, or 5 years of age in 2019.  Please share our invitation with any children you know in your neighbourhood that might enjoy a morning of fun at our gym.

Tuesday, Feb 5 will be RED Day at Devon Gardens. This will be in recognition of Chinese New Year. Students and staff are encouraged to wear red to school.

Pink Shirt Day will be Wednesday, Feb 27th. On that day, we we remind ourselves to practice kindness and acceptance. Students and staff are encouraged to wear pink if they would like to participate. As always, wearing pink is optional. We can practice kindness no matter what colour we wear.

EMERGENCY DRILLS

Just a reminder that we will be practicing emergency drills throughout the year. Once again, please note that we will also be practicing our Lockdown Procedures. Teachers will be teaching students about what we should do in case of such an emergency. There may be a chance that some students may have feelings of worry or nervousness. Please help us by having conversations with your child about the importance of practicing Emergency Drills and let us know if there is anything we can help with at school.
