Week at a Glance Nov 16-20

Dear DG Families,

Diwali is the Indian festival of lights and is being celebrated this year on November 14th.  A very happy and safe Diwali to all.

Public Health Order

In case you missed the letter sent out to all families on November 10th from Superintendent Doug Sheppard, here is the link https://district.public.deltasd.bc.ca/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2020/11/November-10-Message-to-Families.pdf

Please ensure that you are doing the daily health check

As well, we thank all of you for your support in following last week’s public health order by ensuring that you do not interact with others outside of your household, or allow your child to play with others from outside of their cohort. To help avoid these social interactions, we encourage you to leave the school grounds promptly after dropping off or picking up your child from school.

Emergency Drill on Tuesday

There are many ways that we, at school,  focus on the safety and well being of our students.   For instance, we utilize sign-in/out procedures for students and visitors to the school, and we also practice safety procedures such as emergency drills.    This school year, we have already practised both Fire and Earthquake drills and, this Tuesday morning, between recess and lunch, we will be practising a “Hold and Secure” drill.

The “Hold and Secure” procedure, typically allows the school to continue with the normal school day, but does not allow for unnecessary room-to-room transit.  Nor does it allow for entry/exit to or from the building.

This procedure is  most commonly used when an incident is occurring outside the school building, on or off school property, and there is no immediate or active threat.  However, it can also be used to restrict movement inside the building or keep people away from a particular area of the school (eg. a serious medical emergency that would be distressing for others to see).

During the drill on Tuesday, our Delta Police Liaison Officer will be on site to assist.  All interior and exterior doors (including the front door) will be locked and blinds and windows  closed.  Students will continue to work quietly in their classrooms but movement within the building will be restricted.

Although most students will have participated in this type of drill before, teachers will be reviewing the procedures with their students.

Devon Gardens Spirit Wear Orders – DUE MONDAY!

We are pleased to offer Devon Garden’s students and families the opportunity to purchase Devon Garden’s spirit wear.  This year, we are offering 2 designs for our logo (Design A is a new look for us and Design B is the previous logo with the Dragon’s tail).  Also, we will be offering families the opportunity to purchase either a pull over hoodie, a zip hoodie, a t-shirt, a baseball shirt, or a long sleeve shirt.

Should you want to order any Devon Garden’s spirit wear, orders are due back to the school by Monday, November 16th.  (This is printed on each copy sent home with students).  No late orders can be accepted as we will have the clothing ordered sent home prior to the winter break.  As well, please make sure you are looking at the sizing charts as we are unable to do exchanges or returns.

Please make cheques payable to Devon Gardens Elementary.  Naturally, purchase of any item is completely voluntary.
